The Goal of the Colon-Cleansing Program

Completing a colon cleanse will help you improve digestion and colon health. By eliminating waste that’s stuck in the large intestine, you create a better environment for evacuation. Also, colon cleansing increases the colon’s ability to absorb essential nutrients and water. The results will be a better-nourished body.

“What is a normal bowel movement?” people frequently ask. It’s surprising how many people think normal is to have one bowel movement every other day, or even less often. For some, it’s once a week. Health researchers have studied people who live in nonindustrialized, rural communities, who eat a simple, natural, whole foods diet and get a moderate amount of exercise. They’ve determined that these people set the standard for a healthy colon. You might be surprised to learn that they will have a bowel movement within about a half hour after eating a meal, which means that their bowels move two to three times a day. Two to three times a day should be our goal. And yes, it’s possible to reach this goal once the colon is cleansed and restored to health.

Another question people frequently ask is “What does a healthy bowel movement look like?” Healthy feces will be walnut brown in color, will appear soft and unformed, with about the consistency of peanut butter, and will float for a moment before slowly sinking as it begins to break up. It will not be hard, dark in color, pencil thin, or a series of hard pellets. By this definition, there aren’t too many people in America who can report that their colons are working efficiently most of the time.

The goal in the colon-cleansing program is to remedy poor colon health by restoring normal muscle movement in the intestines (peristalsis) so the waste that is inhibiting digestion and assimilation can be removed. The colon cleanse program will require some time and effort for a week or two, but the rewards are well worth it. If we cooperate with our bodies, and cleanse our colon, it will heal and function normally again.
